Laura Neuman, a Maryland businesswoman who was the choice (2013-2014) of the Anne Arundel Council to replace disgraced and convicted County Executive John Leopold has changed parties to run for Maryland Governor.

Newman has a public history of successful business ventures following a poor upbringing and surviving a sexual assault. Her email announcing he campaign for Democratic governor detailed her journey in business but did not mention her political background as a Republican:

“I created a path to opportunity where none existed. I became an entrepreneur, I turned around struggling startups, I ran an economic development agency and became county executive for one of the largest counties in Maryland.” The email states.

Neuman ran for the office she’d been appointed to in 2014 but lost in the primary to Steve Schuh.
