Anne Arundel County Democrats’ Tubman-Remillard Celebration Dinner May 11
May 11, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$75 – $90
The Anne Arundel County Democrats will hold their annual gala, the Tubman-Remillard Celebration Dinner, on Friday May 11, starting at 6 p.m. This is the major fund raising event of the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee (AACDCC), with proceeds supporting election of Democrats this year.
By purchasing a ticket, you can support Democratic candidates throughout the County and have an enjoyable, motivating evening as well.
Terry McAuliffe, former Governor of Virginia, will be the guest speaker. As Governor, McAuliffe focused on equality for all Virginians, enhancing quality of life, and building a new diversified economy that makes economic opportunity a right, not a privilege. During his administration, hundreds of thousands of jobs were created, more than $20 billion in capital were invested in communities across the Commonwealth, and the unemployment rate fell from 5.4% to 3.7%. Standing firm for progressive values, he successfully vetoed a record 120 bills that would have taken Virginia backward. In doing so, McAuliffe has protected women’s access to health care, Virginia’s world-class education system, the environment, and the integrity of its electoral system. He has made unprecedented progress on the restoration of civil rights to rehabilitated felons who have completed their sentences and paid their debt to society. During his tenure, McAuliffe restored the rights of more than 173,000 Virginians, more than any other governor in U.S. history. McAuliffe is now working with Former Attorney General Eric Holder to combat Republican gerrymandering through the efforts of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.
The AACDCC will honor two County Democrats with awards for their outstanding service. Councilman Chris Trumbauer will receive the Legend award for his ceaseless efforts to protect our environment, education and quality of life. Cynthia Carter will receive the Chair Award as the first African-American women elected to the Annapolis City Council, and for her career working with the city’s underprivileged and supporting good candidates.
Each year, the dinner highlights the lives of two Democrats, one national and one local, by naming the event after them. This year the dinner is named for historical and present heroines. Our historical honoree, Harriet Tubman, as both a woman and a slave, couldn’t be a Democratic voter, but she exemplifies the best values of the Party. Our honoree from the present, Ann-Marie Remillard, has been a tireless volunteer and organizer for the Democratic party in Anne Arundel County, and has probably done more to build the party and improve its impact than any single person.
The Tubman-Remillard Celebration Dinner will be held at the Byzantium Events Center on Riva Road in Annapolis. It will be a great opportunity to chat with elected officials and candidates, to get fired up for the upcoming elections, and to support great candidates. There will be live and silent auctions, and the event will be streamed on both AACDCC and APat’s facebook pages.
Tickets are $75 through April 9, then will increase to $90, so buy your ticket now, by going to www.annearundeldems.com.
