Parren J. Mitchell Dinner

$50The keynote speaker will be Joe “Black Eagle” Madison, national talk radio host. Middle school children will do a presentation about Mr. Mitchell’s history. There will be artifacts from his life and time in office, another child will sing the national anthem and yet another will do a dance routine. There will be a video presentation about the congressman’s life as well.
Parren Mitchell was a Democratic Congressman who represented the 7th congressional district of Maryland from 1971 to 1987. He was the first African American elected to Congress from Maryland. He was denied entrance to the University of Maryland due to the color of his skin, faced many other challenges in life and overcame them to become a lawyer and win a seat in Congress. Members of his family will be in attendance at the dinner.
